InfoTrack first across the line in Cabbage Tree Island Race

Christian Beck's InfoTrack has shown strong form in its first matchup against rival super maxi Black Jack

The Cabbage Tree Island Race, which this year signals the last Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore race before the highly anticipated Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, has proved to be an exciting match up for the two super maxis InfoTrack and Black Jack.

After little to no sailing throughout the year due to COVID-19, the two 100 foot grand-prix race yachts have finally been able to size each other up in race conditions. After a tight tussle on Sydney Harbour last night, it was Black Jack who drew first blood by being the first yacht out of Sydney Heads. After Leaving Sydney Harbour it was neck and neck as they worked up the coastline before BlackJack was able to slowly pull away as they closed in on the island. Black Jack was first around the island but on the return journey, InfoTrack was able to reel them back in before passing them at Newcastle and extending their lead all the way to the finish in Rushcutters Bay. By the end of the race, the gap between them was a mere eight minutes

Eyes now turn to the rest of the fleet where the division battle is well underway. With light wind across the course tacticians and trimmers will be focusing hard to gain any advantage they can to try and give their team an edge over their competitors. The current standing is favouring the larger yachts who have been able to make the most of the wind that was available overnight. InfoTrack and Black Jack are sitting high atop the standing ahead of Moneypenny and a group of TP52s. However, an increasing north-easterly wind is expected this afternoon and may give the smaller yachts in the back half of the fleet an advantage.
