Moneypenny claims line honours in series opener

Sean Langman's new-look RP 69 Moneypenny has made its mark today with a strong performance in the Bird Island Race.

The race, which signals the start of the 2020-2021 Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore (Audi Centre Sydney BWPS), kicked off in very light and flukey conditions in Sydney Harbour before the southerly began to strengthen. By the time the front-runners had made it to Bird Island, 40 nautical miles north of Sydney Harbour, they had upwards of 30 knots over the boat, just in time for the uphill beat back home.

Aside from being the first race of the Audi Centre Sydney BWPS, it was also the first real hot-blood offshore hit-out for the new-look Moneypenny (formerly Naval Group) and her team.

After a strong performance today, the team will undoubtedly be looking to repeat this form in Race 2 of the Audi Centre Sydney BWPS, the Cabbage Tree Island Race (Friday 4 December), and then, of course, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race on Boxing day.

Meanwhile, the race for divisional handicap honours continues with seven TP52s hot on their heels and plenty of strong contenders further back including Khaleesi, Sail Exchange, Ariel, Pretty Woman and Sweet Chariot IV who have all had a stellar race so far.
