Black Jack wins Line Honours in 2022 Bird Island Race

Black Jack claimed Line Honours in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's Bird Island Race, completing the 83nm course in 9 hours, 37 minutes, 47 seconds.

Peter Harburg's Reichel/Pugh 100, skippered by Mark Bradford, led the fleet of 55 boats out of Sydney Harbour in a light 6-8 knot nor'easter.

The Bird Island Race is the fourth race in the 2022/23 Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore.

With the other 100-foot maxi, Andoo Comanche, retiring with a hydraulics issue, Black Jack streaked clear of the mini-maxis and averaged 8.7kts to return to Sydney Harbour at 7.37pm on Saturday night.

Black Jack was more than four hours clear of her nearest challenger, with Anthony Johnston's URM Group (skippered by Marcus Ashley-Jones) second over the line just before midnight and Sean Langman's Moneypenny third just after midnight.
