From social sailor to passionate ocean racer, Daniel Edwards was trained as an architect, but gets excited about getting sailing with mates on the weekend. This year he was the first entrant to the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast, and he says he’ll use this fact to encourage others from his club to sign up.
For Edwards, travelling up from Victoria during winter, its just about ‘the racing’ and ‘having fun’. When he arrives at CYC he’ll represent Sandringham Yacht Club in his Mark Mills designed M.A.T 1245 White Noise.
With some strong results behind him in 2021 and 2022, Edwards is going to challenge for a place in 2023 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast, kicking off on Sydney Harbour on 29 July.
Not a stranger to the race, Daniel won IRC Division 2 in 2022 and also placed 2nd IRC Division 2 in the Audi Centre Sydney BWPS Flinders Islet Race.
In October 2019, White Noise placed second AMS in the Melbourne to Stanley Race, giving her a run-in ahead of her first participation in the 2019 Rolex Sydney Hobart, where she placed 54th overall.
Subsequently, White Noise blitzed the field in the ORCVs 49th King Island Race in 2021.
At the time, when aske about the race, Edwards said the best thing about the ORCV race was the delicious return home.
“Enjoying the crayfish for breakfast this morning when we got back to Sandringham,” Edwards said.
With his previous White Noise, Edwards was crowned the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria’s Offshore Champion for 2016-2017, yet Edwards insists he’s racing purely for enjoyment.
To catch the start to the race you can visit the CYCA or check it out, when it’s streamed live on the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Facebook page and CYCA TV YouTube channel.
Entries for 384 nautical mile passage are now open and will close at 1700hrs on 14 July 2023.
