Audi Centre Sydney BWPS Tollgate Islands Race Preview

Covering 258 nautical miles, the race will see competitors navigate out of Sydney Harbour and turn south towards the rugged Tollgate Islands.

Located four nautical miles off the coast of Batemans Bay, these rocky islands are a renowned diving spot and will serve as the rounding mark at the race’s halfway point

The race, originally scheduled to start at 1700hrs, has been amended to 1900hrs due to the forecasted thunderstorms.

Last year’s Results

Last year, the first boats out of the heads were Master Lock Comanche, URM Group, Whisper (now competing in the Rolex Middle Sea Race), and Smuggler. The first yacht under 50 feet to follow was XS Moment, with the remaining pack of competitors trailing not far behind.

The VPLP Verdier 100 Comanche, chartered by James Mayo and Matt Allen, proved strong in her start to her 2024-2025 Blue Water Pointscore campaign and led the fleet for the entirety of the race. Sailing at over 20 knots at times, she managed to clear a 14 nautical mile lead over Anthony and David Johnston’s 72-foot URM Group. Master Lock Comanche has however withdrawn from this year's race.

This year promises another thrilling contest, with a fantastic range of yachts racing across all sizes and styles. Follow the action live via the race tracker and check out the full list of entrants to see all the boats competing.
